God, Do You Really Hear me?

By SirDent

God does indeed hear the cries of those who pray in the Spirit. Many would want God to answer and hear a prayer merely because He has the ability to give them anything their heart desires. They try to use God like a credit card with no limit and no expiration. They think Him to be a bank who gives and gives as they make their requests.

God will answer prayers. Sometimes the answer is obvious, sometimes not so obvious. God will only hear those prayers made to Him if they are made in the way He has shown us to make them. In other words, He showed us how to pray and expects us to pray that way. If we pray according to our fleshly desires, why should He heed our requests? God is Spirit and must be prayed to and worshiped in Spirit.

King David wrote about how God hears the cries of His people. God's ear is attentive to our cries and requests we make of Him. But as stated above, we must pray in the right way. Jesus showed the disciples how to pray. He said pray after this manner. Our Father, which art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. The word Hallowed in this context means; Holy and sacred. HOLY and SACRED be thy name, could be used in place of Hallowed. We must reverence God first in our prayers. If we do not reverence Him, we merely make noise that reaches only our own ears.

We must put forth the effort that God requires of us to have our prayers answered. Sometimes the answer isn't instant, and it may seem it is taking forever, but the answer will come to you.

There is no right way to pray to God accept with your heart. God doesn't listen to rehersal prayers that lack the spirit of self..

I know you don't like what I have to say to you, but if you would have an ear for me, I will tell you that God wants you to love yourself as you love God and God is in your neigbors as well. Don't judge yourself, anyones judgment of you is always false. Remember that. Love yourself. Don't retaliate in pride over my words, because you asked for answers, and I have been giving them to you.

Take care of yourself Sir Dent.

You are right sandra. God does want you to pray from the heart. Many people recite the Lord's Prayer, but it was given as a guide to what to pray for.

Sandra, I appreciate your comments more than you know. Not that I believe you to be right, but it teaches me where I may have not shown clearly what I am trying to show.

Jesus taught the disciples how to pray. He said pray after this fashion., then quoted the prayer. What He meant was to pray in the same context. If a person cannot or does not reverence God, why would they bother to pray to Him? I failed to show that like it needs shown in my hub and will edit ASAP.

As for saying the Lord's prayer, it does work in time when one doesn't know what to pray. It is simple and easy to recite. It speaks volume in only a few words.

Thanks everyone for the comments and the reads. I really appreciate it very much.

In the opening sentence you wrote: "God does indeed hear the cries of those who pray in the Spirit." I agree with you. God listens to our prayers when we pray in the Spirit is because He is Spirit and He wants us to worship Him in the Spirit (Jn. 4:23-24)

Prayer in the Spirit is effective because "the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God." (Rom. 8:26-27)

The apostle Paul wrote about two kinds of prayer - with the spirit and with understanding. "For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is the result then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will slso sing with the understanding." (1 Cor. 14:14-15)

"But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life." (Jude 20-21)

Nice hub, SirDent. I actually wrote three-part series on this topic on my blog. I agree, answers are very frequently missed because they don't look like the answers people are looking for. I don't mean to be promotional, but if you are interested the trilogy is here:

I agree, God wants us to speak our heart. Sometimes we are afraid to speak our heart because we don't want to be let down if God's answer is not what we want. However, we can really miss great opportunities and blessings by holding back. Not because God won't do what he is going to do anyway, but because prayer allows us to be part of God's plan. http://www.seekingabove.com/search/label/Prayer

Most everyone prays to request something they may think they need. As you address a parent when you begin to speak, you have to address our Heavenly Father as such. Why do we not thank Him for what He has already given us. Instead of asking Him for help in getting the money to pay your bills, ask Him for the power and strength to make it happen.

Even when writing an essay you must present your subject in your opening and your conclusion.

Prayer (communication/communion with God) is why Jesus came to die for us. He wants to be with us. He removed our sin to reconcile us to God. When we receive Him by faith, He makes us righteous and acceptable to God.

When our sin condemned us, we had no fellowship with God (Isaiah 59:1). Now, with our sin removed, we can approach the throne of grace with boldness by the new and living way--His flesh that was broken to give us access to God (Hebrews 10:17-22).

Our attitudes and philosophies toward prayer might change if we consider the cost Jesus paid to give us the ability to pray and be heard.

If I may, here's a link to an article I wrote recently about prayer:

He hears. He just sometimes takes a little while to answer.

Maybe he doesn't think you're ready for the answer.

Sometimes not answering is an answer.

Here is how Jesus said to pray:

1. As Iesus was praying in a certain place on a mountain, some of his disciples came unto him, and one of then said, Lord teach us how to pray. And Iesus said unto them, When thou prayest enter into thy secret chamber, and when thou hast closed the door, pray to Abba Amma Who is above and within thee, and thy Father-Mother Who seest all that is secret shall answer thee openly. 2. But when ye are gathered together, and pray in common, use not vain repetitions, for your heavenly Parent knoweth what things ye have need of before ye ask them. After this manner therefore pray ye:— 3. Our Father-Mother Who art above and within: Hallowed be Thy Name in twofold Trinity. In Wisdom, Love and Equity Thy Kingdom come to all. Thy will be done, As in Heaven so in Earth. Give us day by day to partake of Thy holy Bread, and the fruit of the living Vine. As Thou dost forgive us our trespasses, so may we forgive others who trespass against us. Shew upon us Thy goodness, that to others we may shew the same. In the hour of temptation, deliver us from evil. 4. Shew upon us Thy goodness, that to others we may shew the same. In the hour of temptation, deliver us from evil. 5. And wheresoever there are seven gathered together in My Name there am I in the midst of them; yea, if only there be three or two; and where there is but one who prayeth in secret, I am with that one. 6. Raise the Stone, and there thou shall find me. Cleave the wood, and there am I. For in the fire and in the water even as in every living form, God is manifest as it’s Life and it’s Substance. 7. AND the Lord said, If thy brother hath sinned in word seven times a day, and seven times a day hath made amendment, receive him. Simon said to him, Seven times a day ? 8. The Lord answered and said to him, I tell thee also unto seventy times seven, for even in the Prophets, after they were anointed by the Spirits utterance of sin was found. 9. Be ye therefore considerate, be tender, be ye pitiful, be ye kind, not to your own kind alone, but to every creature which is within your care, for ye are to them as gods, to whom they look in their need. Be ye slow to anger for many sin in anger which they repented of, when their anger was past. 10. AND there was a man whose hand was withered and he came to Iesus and said, Lord, I was a mason seeking sustenance by my hands, I beseech thee restore to me my health that I may not beg for food with shame. And Iesus healed him, saying There is a house made without hands, seek that thou mayest dwell therein.

LECTION 19. 2 -There are two versions given of the Lord's Prayer, this one, the fullest, being given to the Twelve and their companions, and a shorter form afterwards to the people in his Sermon on the Mount.

v. 5, 6 -An ancient saying, long lost to the Church. The all-pervading nature of Deity seems plainly taught, which, in a recently recovered fragment, is obscure.

With all due respect LG, I searched the site then searched for the author of what you posted. It won't hold water to the original scrolls and such. What I found out reminded me of Muhammad recieving word from Allah. It's just plain garbage to me.

Of course it is garbage to ou because it mentioned a women and mother. Jesus was a Nazarene-period------so why does the church or religions favor more of the Jewish print over where Jesus truly came from. Oh and one sect of Religius peoples will tell you that they pay homage to a woman and that is Mother Mary---They pray to her too. Prayer is just ritual tha has been blown out of proportion. Concentration is the key, not repettion. Why it takes so long---obviously it is becasue things or events in ones life and others lives have to re arranged to accomodate that which one is asking for.

Indeed, to pray in the Spirit is to pray the perfect will of God and that not of ourselves.  1 John 5:14 "And this is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us."

God showed me the most important element of prayer is love.  Prayer or any gift we have from God is nothing if we don't love God first and love those we pray for.  This is the very "mystery" of why we must "love our enemies" and "pray (in that love) for those who persecute you".  Jesus came to save and we love Him because He first loved us.  I love this hub!

Each of us comes to God in prayer our own one-self-personal way, and God sees what we may not know to pray, ask. His wisdom and knowledge of each of us - His creation- is complete. If we truly are Christ-followers, His Holy Spirit will lead, teach, guide us into more of His truth, as we are willing. It is a life-long learning process, after the 'repentant decision'. All I know is, I am so thankful that God understands everything about me - and loves me anyway! Good to pursue into all your comments, and thanks to you Sir Dent!

I'd like to share about the concept of "pray without ceasing". It's like we are in constant oneness with Him (sort of like you sense things about your family whom you love at all times, and know when there's something serious that's happened). I know the Spirit in me is always with me; I feel HIs presence and communication at all times. AMEN.

I have been a Christian for a couple years now....i read scripture and pray with all i have every day with all i have and my depression deepens and things seem to get worse and worse.....i guess i have done something to offend my ABBA FATHER

Kemt, hold onto Jesus with everything that is within you. He will never leave you nor forsake you. if you have sinned, ask for forgiveness and let Him forgive you. it is hard to say anything else because I have no idea who you are or what you have gone through. If you come back, please let me know all that you can if you want to.

The woman who had the issue of blood told Jesus "ALL THE TRUTH" after Jesus found her out. Sometimes we hold things back that should be confessed.
