Virginia Beach Vacation
61My family and I went on a vacation recently to Virginia Beach. It was the first time I have ever gone to the beach and also the first time I have seen the ocean in person. I must admit I enjoyed every minute of it. We had a great hotel room that overlooked the beach and many of the photos I took were taken from the balcony of our room.
This hub is mostly photos, but I will write some dialog and will also mention a few restaurants.
Places to Eat
One place in particular that I truly loved going to is Mary's Restaurant. The food was great and the service always friendly and prompt. I must admit this was my favorite place to eat while there. They open at 6 AM and close at 3 PM daily. They serve breakfast all day and have a great menu to choose from. One thing I disliked about Mary's is that their biscuits are too heavy for my liking.
Most places around Virginia Beach will deliver food to your room or hotel. Another place I enjoyed having food delvered from is North End Pizza, Pastas, & Subs. They have a great selection of food items to choose from. The food we recieved was excellent. We seemed to have been able to find good food from different restaurants.
Within walking distance of our hotel there is a Dairy Queen. There is also an amusement park within walking distance of our hotel room. This makes is convenient especially if you have small children.

Family Friendly
Virginia Beach is a family friendly place. While I was there I saw nothing that could harm my son or his best friend who went with us. As far as I know, there was no drinking of alcoholic beverages of any kind in public. I know that many places allow open drinking on beaches.
There is a boardwalk that runs along with the beach. You can rent bicycles from many places along Virginia boulevard if you want to ride on the bike path and view the ocean. There are a lot of joggers at Virginia beach so it is friendly in that respect also if that is what you want to do.
There is also a series of web-cams spaced along the ocean front which can be viewed at all times of the day or night.

Sunrise Over the Ocean
The video below is done with photos I took of the sunrise over the Atlantic ocean and a few other photos of waves while on the beach. The song is by the group Judah that I play bass in. The words were written by Bob Dylan in 1982.

USS Wisconsin
The USS Wisconsin is the last battleship to be decommissioned in 1991. It is permanently harbored at Norfolk and is accessible through Nautilus. You can walk along the decks and see many things on the ship. We walked all over everything that we were allowed to.
The guns on the ship shot 16 Inch shells and were very accurate up to 26 miles. In the slideshow below you will see many photos taken while on this battleship. My son and his best friend are the young men in some of the photos.
