Westgate Tabernacle- A Spirit of Giving
66Westgate Tabernacle
Homeless
I saw him under a bridge one day
Attempting to keep dry
The storms of life had blown him away
He merely wanted to die
A cup of coffee was in my hand
I handed it over to him
It's such a shame in this great land
His life would look so grim
I know of a place where you can go
I told him with a smile
The look he gave was one I know
Would be there for a while
Trust is hard to come by
It surely must be earned
I want to be his ally
And show him my concern
I would meet with him
Day after day
Telling him of Jesus
And why He was slain
Jesus died for you too
Is what I would say
Because everyone including you
Has lost their way.
Satan lost the war
On the old rugged cross
Our sins Jesus bore
Satan's work now turned to dross
Homeless: Never Give Up
Westgate Tabernacle was founded in 1929 by Rev. Flora Belle Haidt and her Husband Rev. Donald Haidt. It was founded to be a home for the homeless even from the beginning. Today there are one hundred sixty residents, who were previously homeless, living there. This includes thirty children the youngest of which is three months old. Seven families live there at this time.
Currently up to 450 people are fed each day. This congregation seems to have taken on the body of Christ as we all should. They carry their crosses just as Jesus commandes us all to do. They receive no financial help from the state or federal goverments. They are totally relying upon God to give what's needed to take care of these people.
It must be stated that they are a full gospel Church. Their first priority is the spreading of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
After checking out their website, I couldn't find anything about them accepting donations, but I'm sure they do. There is an address and phone number on their homepage.
Luk 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.
Rev 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
HUD
There is a serious problem with homelessness throughout the United States and other nations also I'm sure. An estimate made in 2005 states that there are approximately seven hundred forty-four thousand homeless people. If you are homeless, or know someone who is homeless, help is available through HUD.

A home is such a basic requirement for the human soul that until you don't have one, it's a difficult situation to even understand. Blessed are those who hand over a cup of coffee.
It is awful how so many people are missing out on the main daily fundamentals, of having shelter over their heads and food in their bellies.
Where have they gone wrong. Is most of it caused through drugs and family breakdowns. That our world has stooped so low as to not being able to help these people. I know it is now much worse and even families cannot find accomadation in australia. They are living and sleeping in their cars.
It is terrible. Great hub, very much needed one to show people what is happening outside their multimilion dollar castles.
More peace be to the people that do this and God bless them. I would volunteer to work at a place like this, but there is nothing quite like this in our area.
We do also have those things. I actually donate quite a few books to the goodwill and clothes to neighbors in need.
This is a terrific cause, I hope they reach their goal.
We have homeless here that caring people go out searching for in winter so they won't freeze to death sleeping on the street in sub-zero temperatures. Those people are Godsends.
Thank you for a a heartfelt hub. Helps us to appreciate the daily blessing the Lord showers upon us every day.
Homelessness is not about drugs and family breakdowns in our country--it's more of the mortgage companies misleading people and them losing everything they have-----where shall they all go. There was a program on a couple of months ago on one of the health channels that they tried to help a homeless man learn how to live with a house and everything. They gave him money and they helped him do and learn how to be good in financial situations. What happen was that he gave all his money away to others whom he thought needed it more then he. He said in the end he liked living in a homeless situation because he was FREE--no bills and no one to be under--no boss, no parent, no child--just total Freedom. I often think that this is how Jesus wants us all to live--drop everything and follow him.....isn't that what this guy did--he gave everything he was given to those he thought needed it. It is a mental state of mind--they proved that with tests of all kinds on this man--there really is a different set of mind cells in their brains. I would look it up but I don't even remember the name of the program.
Friends,
Thank you very much for your kind words and support, on behalf of The Lord's work here at Westgate Tabernacle. As Bishop, I feel honored and blessed to be afforded the opportunity to help these hurting souls, who come through our doors. We are souly a faithbase supported home missions outreach ministry. As spoken in the article written about Westgate, yes we do take donations. Everything from clothing, furniture, household items to yes financial support. Our budget is well over $17,000.00 per month. We also know that Westgate Tabernacle is, "the fishes and loaves, where The Lord takes a little bit and feeds the multitudes who come to stay temporarly as guest. "There are no strangers at Westgate. Only friends we have yet to meet." We have worship services nightly at 7 PM and if you are ever in our neighborhood please stop by and say hello.

Great hub Sir - It is organizations like Westgate Tabernacle that do the most good. I've seen so much government "interference" that has hurt more than helped. God bless Westgate for the wonderful work they're doing. (and no I don't mind that you posted this on my hub - I think it's wonderful :)

Homelessness makes me very sad. I am always sadden when I see veterans who are truly homeless because they are disabled and/or have mental health problems that make it hard for them to work and pay rent. Some people think I am silly to give a dollar to homeless veteran when I can spare it, but I do give it to them because I know I have so much to be thank ful for. I am glad this church is helping homeless people get back on their feet.
