Whom/What do You Worship?

Exo 3:21 And I will give this people favour in the sight of the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty:

Exo 3:22 But every woman shall borrow of her neighbour, and of her that sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye shall spoil the Egyptians.

The time that this was taking place was just before the Hebrews were led out of Egypt by Moses. God blessed them with gold and silver, no doubt payment for the years of labor provided by the Hebrews to the Egyptians. God led them out of Egypt by using Moses as a leader. Most of us know the story. How they crossed the Red Sea and the Egyptian army was drowned as the water came back into its place. We will now look at what happened after the crossing.

Exo 32:1 And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.

Exo 32:2 And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me.

Exo 32:4 And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

The people asked Aaron to make them gods because Moses had been gone for days. They said they didn't know what happened to him or where he is. Aaron in turn told them to bring their gold, (God's blessings to them), and he then made images from the gold. He made a statement that these will be the gods of Israel, which brought them up out of Egypt. They had just crossed the Red Sea which was parted for them to cross on "dry land" by the hand of God! This just happened a few days before! Now they have golden images of gods to worship and declare as being what brought them out of Egypt.

They went from worshipping God, to worshipping the blessings of God. Moses is on the top of Mount Sinai receiving the commandments of God. The Israelites even brought offerings to burn to this golden calf image that Aaron had fashioned for them. This is how many are today. They meet God and worship Him, then they start worshipping the blessings of God. They forget about "who" gave them the blessings to begin with

1Co 12:4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

There are nine spiritual gifts listed in this chapter of Corinthians. These gifts are to be used to edify the church. Later on Paul writes about "speaking in tongues." I'm sure there were many that spoke in tongues that were doing it just to be doing it. Showing off what God had blessed them with. This means they would be worshipping the "blessings" of God and not the "giver" of blessings. I believe this is why Paul wrote what he wrote about speaking in tongues. What good would it be to speak in tongues constantly? Who gets the glory for you speaking in tongues? Many people misunderstand this and believe no person should speak in tongues. They misread the scriptures concerning this. Paul never said, "Do not speak in tongues." What Paul did say is, "Forbid not to speak with tongues. Let all things be done in decency and in order." Let it be done in "order." If tongues are in order then God will make it happen. So think about this; do you worship the "giver of blessings?" Do you worship the "blessings?" This is one thing we need to be very diligent of. The flesh of man is full of pride. It's so easy to get caught up in works and acts. If you have strayed and started worshipping the blessings, it isn't too late to turn back to God right now. There is still time, but no man knows how much more time there will be.

Prayer

Father God, thank you for this word. We thank you Father for being the "giver of blessings." Help us to be diligent Father and refrain from worshipping your blessings. Help us to remain focused completely upon you. Let the lost hear your voice that they may come to you according to your holy Word. In the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, Amen!!!!!
